Beat the Heat
As it continues to get warmer this summer, it is important to take the time for some important self-care steps to stay safe and healthy this Summer.
Stay Hydrated
It's essential to stay hydrated, it is essential for staying healthy this summer. Some dieticians recommend drinking half your body weight in water. Eating foods like a watermelon that are high in water content can help you stay hydrated as well. Dehydration can lead to headaches, loss of energy and nausea.
Hit the Water
Even though it is scorching hot, Swimming is a great way to stay cool, as well one of the rare full body exercises you can do. Chico has plenty of natural watering holes to take a dip in with cool running water if you don't have access to a swimming pool. Remember to swim with a buddy just in case!
Run in the Shade
Running or walking is a very effective form of exercise, but it is best to do so early in the morning or later in the day during the Summer heat. Bidwell Park has lots of shady jogging and biking trails so you can get your sweat on without burning to a crisp.
Your Biggest Fan
While your air conditioner can help get your house cooler faster, they use up massive amounts of energy and money. A central A/C unit can cost 129.60 a month, a window A/C $ 50.40, and a fan merely $1.20. Though it's not necessary to go so far as not using your A/C at all, you can simply set it on low and have a fan going at the same time to still feel cool. That could keep you comfortable and save a lot of money.
Popsicles
You can also keep cool with a sweet treat by enjoying a nice popsicle in the afternoon. Store bought popsicles can be tasty and convenient but also unhealthy with their high sugar content. You can make them healthier by using fruit juice to fill a popsicle mold you get from the Little Red Hen Kitchen Store. Chico summer temperatures often soar into the triple digits so it's important to stay hydrated, stay safe, and stay cool!
