Treat or Tricked

Halloween is almost here, and we all know what that means-- Candy! Park & Garden comes to the rescue with their latest Healthy Staff class with some nutritious and still delicious snacks to keep your stomach safe and healthy on October 31st.

Hummus & Peppo-Lanterns

Park & Garden's first Halloween-themed snack are these adorable "Peppo-Lanterns" filled with celery and carrot sticks suitable for dipping in Hummus. This delicious dip-ready snack is an excellent source of plant-based protein. Hummus also helps in digestion and sends good bacteria straight to your gut. Celery and carrots are both high in fiber and low in calories, and make a healthy fat free snack.

I Want My (Apple) Mummy

If you find your find yourself craving something a little sweeter when it comes to snack time, these "Apple Mummies" will hit the spot. These portable red snackables are simple red apples peeled to look like a Mummy, with chocolate chips for the eyes. Apples are also an excellent source of natural sugar. Orange Pumpkins were also on hand, which is a peeled orange with a piece of celery out of the top, made to look like a pumpkin. These mini pumpkins were made using small mandarin oranges, sometimes known as "clementines." These snack size oranges are packed with Vitamin B1 and C, as well as a small amount of potassium.

Apples are one of the healthiest foods a person can. They contain high sources of both fiber and vitamin C. The phrase "an apple a day can keep the doctor away" is in reference to their heart healthy benefits. Their small size also means you can snack on the go! With these simple and easy to make Halloween snacks on hand, it's easy to have a happy and even healthy Halloween night.
